This month Dr. Howard Resnick will explore and question Joseph Campbell's ideas on language and mythology from the perspective of Vedanta, India's most influential metaphysical tradition.

Listen and download the lecture here.

Dr. Resnick writes that Joseph Campbell made a major contribution not only to our understanding of mythology, but also to our insight into the unity of life and culture. Even as he revealed the universality of consciousness, he also held specific views on the philosophy of language, the function of myth, and the nature of metaphysical Truth (capital 'T' intended). Honoring his contribution, Dr. Resnick will simultaneously explore and question some of Campbell's specific notions on language and myth from the perspective of Vedanta, India's most influential metaphysical tradition.

Biography:

Dr. Resnick completed his Ph.D. in Sanskrit and Indian Studies at Harvard and has lectured at universities around the world, including Harvard, Yale, Oxford and Cambridge. He has translated and published ancient Sanskrit texts, such as Srimad-Bhagavatam and Mahabharata, which have played a central role in Indian spirituality. He has taught the philosophy and practice of bhakti-yoga throughout the world, and also founded dozens of spiritual communities in North America, South America and Europe. In 1969, he began a strict practice of bhakti-yoga which he continues to this day. Presently, he is completing several literary projects which he hopes will bring the ancient wisdom to an even wider audience. He was born and raised in Los Angeles and attended college at Berkely.

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
